A pair of matching Ektachrome continuous-tone transparency cels from the Walt Disney Studios animated film TRON (1982). Featuring the iconic pose of Bruce Boxleitner as Tron holding his Identity Disc, the Ektachrome cel was created at the studio and used during the production of the special effects sequences in the film. The groundbreaking film predated modern day computer animation and effects, requiring the unique lighting effects to be hand created frame by frame. This painstaking process was only used for TRON, making the film's effects artwork a special piece of movie history. The frames required multiple layers to be created inverting the imagery to produce the necessary line work. The rare set up seen here includes two of the matching layers for one frame. Measuring 12.5"x20" overall and with the character image measuring 8.5"x19", the transparency cel is in very good condition with light surface abrasions, minimal edge wear including a dog eared upper left corner, and small dings from use and handling. Due to the matching inverted layers, the composite imagery created is very dark and created faint illuminated outlines, seen in the additional images shown here.
